![]() They also don’t sit back in the mix either, when it’s their turn they come right to the front and make themselves heard. ![]() ![]() ![]() It almost sounds as if it’s her friend reinforcing her decision to break up with her boyfriend, which is really cool and helps the track flow and get its message across. She is stating something and they’re backing her up. The backing vocals in the track are panned and don’t actually come in whilst Erykah is singing, it’s more of a call and response action. This would ensure that they were always capturing the vocal, even when she went from singing quite loudly to very quietly, very quickly. Large Diaphragm due to the broad frequency content in her vocals and a Condenser Mic due to how dynamically she sings in terms of her levels. Because of these characteristics I would make the assumption they have used a Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic. Although when she slows down and sings softer, the gets a bit of Low Mid presence in there as well! The whole track is sung extremely dynamically, with her vocals running all over the pace in terms of pitch and volume. Side Note: There is a version of the track that is 3:48 but the reference Mufaro has given me is the 5:40 version.Įrykah has a lot of High Mid presence in her vocals and sings extremely smoothly.
